For His Sanity
He works hard for his sanity
So hard for his sanity
He works hard to stay sane
He works hard to be free
American Man goes to work
He’s glad to have a job
He wonders how much longer it will last
American Man remembers
It wasn’t always this way
He wonders longingly for the past
The days when he would come home
With money for the bills and a little bit extra for vacation
He bought the wife a diamond
Himself a sports car
Before the market crashed
Before his hopes were dashed
He works hard for his sanity
So hard for his sanity
He works hard to stay sane
He works hard to be free
American Man feels the weight
Of mis-steps and mistakes
They haunt his every step
American Man remembers
He did the best he could
He wonders if things like that matter
The days when he had dreams, adventure and ambition
He set out to find his fortune
The future seemed so bright
Like countless stars in the night
Before reality hit
Now his mantra is, “don’t quit”
He works hard for his sanity
So hard for his sanity
He works hard to stay sane
He works hard to be free
